Senator Figueroa-Serville Racist Tirade Transcript:
Note: Juan Figueroa-Serville is not a member of the committee he addresses during this tirade. Chairman Senator Dowe apparently allowed Figueroa-Serville to address the meeting for the purpose of delivering his hate speech. Also note that it is being read, with pre-meditation, from a written script.
Senator Dowe: Senator Figueroa, you recognized for, a your five minutes.
Senator Figueroa-Serville: Thank you Mr. Chairman.
Attorney Frazier. $97,000 is what you're commanding right now?
Attorney Frazier: That's what they tell me.
Senator Figueroa-Serville: That's not good enough for you sir. Not $97,000 with the level of responsibility that you will be inheriting, and all the problems that you'll be facing in our community. I believe someone in your position commands no less than $150,000 a year. But please, I'm asking you, please do not ask for a raise. OK? And although you're worth every penny of it and more, because Roger W. Morgan, and his Klu Klux Klan cronies and puppets may want to recall you too, OK? So please don't go there. That's what they said to me. I'm not worth the $85,000 that this level of responsibility and leading this government commands. At least.
But that's what they want. They want our people to remain poor and down-trodden. To them black people should not make money. We should never be uplifted in stature. And then if it comes to them, if they have their way, they would prefer and wish that we didn't have the right to learn, read and write, and educate ourselves. Then they brainwash our people, our own people to beat up on our own, and destroy our own. And sadly our people are falling prey to this. To the brainwashing and to the bribe money that they also give them. And then they have the nerve to talk about our leaders and government employees as if we were dogs and monkeys. That's what they call us on the radios. Dogs and monkeys.
Then they say that Senator Juan Figueroa Figueroa-Serville should be exiled from his own home. Well this is my home. They may be able to have the money and power to get me out of this Senate, but they ain't definitely ain't gonna exile me from my own home. How dare they. Well I have news for Roger W. Morgan and his Ku Klux Klan cronies and puppets. They want to get me out of this Senate, and they want to send me back to where my mother's land comes from because she is an Eastern Caribbean woman from Trinidad and Tobago, and because I am her son they want me out as well. Well I'm sorry for them. I'm staying right here because this is my home. This is who I am, and who I and where I come from.
And then they want they have the nerve, and the gull to tell us and tell me about myself? Well I have news, further news for Roger W. Morgan, and his Ku Klux Klan cronies, and puppets. I am bringing an amendment to put the starting salary of all class III employees, to include the Emergency Services Personnel, to $40,000 a year that will be amending Senator Luis Patrick's Hill's bill to put starting salaries of all of our teachers to $40,000 a year. I want Roger W. Morgan and his Ku Klux Klan folk and his puppets to recall me on that too.
I may not serve the people of the Virgin Islands in this capacity for much longer because there are very powerful people who control the media and the money that's floats in this territory, who want me out of this Senate, and want me destroyed because I am a threat to their control and power for the future. But I tell you this. As a man that I am, while the people of this territory, and the people of St. Croix give me the privilege and greatest honor that I will ever have, in sitting in this chair and representing them, by GOD ALMIGHTY, I will speak my mind. And as the man that I am, they will never cower me. They will never punk me. Because I come from quality stock and quality breed.
And while I serve the people in this capacity, I WILL make sure that my people, that the truth comes out, and that my people are treated with respect and dignity.
They come to me and tell me that they're gonna stop economic development on St. Croix because they want St. Croix to remain their paradise. Its their paradise. Well I have news for you. You can get rid of me but another will replace me and advocate, because my people are going to eat steak and lobster like you do.
Senator Dowe: Thank you Senator.
Senator Figueroa-Serville: Thank you Mr. Chairman.
